What is UTM Tracking?

A UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) is a code snippet that when added to a URL will give insights and analytics into how successful that content is across the web. A UTM code can be added to the end of any URL and helps to track the performance of your marketing efforts. Using a UTM code in conjunction with Google Analytics or another analytics tool will allow you to track a source, medium, and campaign name; this will not only tell you where contacts came from but also what campaign directed them to you.

How can this help me?

If you’re spending a lot of time developing automated campaigns you may be using TONS of links to places like your website, a landing page, or one of your social media channels. UTM codes help to track the performance of each of those links so you can see exactly where your traffic is coming from.

Can I use UTM tracking alongside of BenchmarkONE?

Of course! After you've created your UTM code snippet, hyperlink the text in your email and add that to the end of any URL you'd normally include in a BenchmarkONE email. BenchmarkONE will take care of tracking that link click and triggering any automations that you've added; but, now with the addition of your UTM code you'll have added insights into how successful that content will be across the web.
